New Feature: Futures & Options - Snapshot & Analytics

As you may have noticed, we have re-designed the Moneyoga site - navigation has been made easier, and there are a bunch of new features for our users. We’ll explain the main ones in a series of blog posts, starting with this one featuring:

One of the shortcomings we have found in online financial media in India has been in the area of derivatives - specifically equity futures & options. While you can get quotes and ‘most active’ intraday F&O lists from the NSE, it is virtually impossible to get a summarized view of the F&O market.

Rather than make you dig through 200+ F&O pages, we have created a single page - Futures & Options Snapshot - that shows the cumulative volume & open interest for all current month F&O contracts for all F&O-able stocks and indices at the NSE.

Besides being a one-stop shop for all F&O action, the page also provides links to our unique Future & Option pages for each stock, making navigation quicker. Furthermore, we have grouped the stocks by sector, to offer yet another level of analysis - you can now quickly detect which stock within any sector is experiencing the highest F&O volumes.

The screenshots below show the sector-based grouping and a sample F&O snapshot of stocks in the Cement sector.

The other new page is Futures & Options Analytics, which lists the most active, current month, futures & options contracts, where:

  • Active Futures are those whose volume and/or open interest are at-least 10X the 1-month average.
  • Active Puts & Calls are those whose volume and/or open interest are at-least 2X the 1-month average.

For example, the screenshot below shows a list of most active Put Option contracts.

The idea here is to identify trading opportunities in the underlying stocks, given the unusually high F&O activity.

Note: At this time, we have omitted mid-month & far-month F&O contracts from these pages, due to generally poor liquidity in those instruments.
