That was a very candid interview Deepak. I have been a regular visitor to your site since 3 months and find the model to be very interesting. It’s something that can probably cut down a little bit on the cacophony in the marketplace. And wish you and Kaushik lot of luck in the venture.

I have been wondering off late. How far do you think analytics really can be a capital protector in a scenario such as the current bear phase we are seeing. Whilst point taken that trading/speculation by itself is an activity where probability of winning is less, vis-a-vis say investing in the buffett style. A couple of month’s back say some of the trend indicatiors for many stocks would have triggered buy calls on indicatiors like RSI / MACD for instance. However, the indexes have further fallen over 15-20% since the levels, and so have those stocks.

I also remember having viewed a post on your site which talked about Nifty probably reaching to 3800-3600 levels again a couple of months back based on the PE ranges (I may be wrong since I cannot find that post, but trusting my memory here). Would it be therefore prudent to say that whilst individual stock indicators may indicate one thing, overall market indicator which has a larger bearing on stock prices due to the high co-relation most stock prices have with the index, should be viewed first ?

Would I therefore as a person relying solely on quant, have looked at the overall index analytics and shorted Nifty rather than buying a stock which showed a buy signal.

Of course, MACD / RSI are just a couple of the indicators so the argument is false where it suggests , but a person with average knowledge and experience of the market visting the site would perhaps look at such triggers.
